The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has released a new policy for Pakistani students aiming to pursue undergraduate medical or dental education at foreign institutions. This policy is effective from the 2024-2025 academic session and outlines mandatory conditions to ensure the recognition and quality of education received abroad.
Key Conditions for Admission
Educational Qualifications:
Students must have completed FSC (Pre-Medical) with a minimum of 60% marks in Pakistan.
Alternatively, students can qualify with SAT-II scores of at least 550 in each subject or pass a foreign MCAT/UCAT examination with 50% marks in mandatory subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics).
MDCAT Requirement:
Students must achieve at least 50% marks in the MDCAT conducted in Pakistan. This result is valid for three years, applicable to students who have completed their intermediate education within Pakistan.
Institution Verification:
Students must ensure their chosen foreign institution is listed by the PMDC. The qualification must be in allopathic medicine and recognized by the relevant regulatory body in the respective country, accredited by the WFME or the World Directory of Medical Schools.
PMDC Student Registration:
Obtaining a PMDC Student Registration Certificate before commencing studies at the foreign institution is mandatory.
Course Requirements:
The medical qualification must consist of at least 6200 hours over five years, with a minimum attendance of 80%.
Language Proficiency:
For countries where English is not the medium of instruction, students must spend at least six months learning the local language before beginning their studies.
Post-Qualification Requirements:
After completing their studies, students must pass the National Registration Examination of the PMDC to gain full registration in Pakistan.
Residency and Visa Details:
Students must provide details of their residence and contact numbers in the country of study.
A multiple-entry visa for the duration of the study program is required.
