The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has comparatively approved the examination schedule of MBBS for the students of the academic year 2024-2025. It was decided in the 50th Board of Studies Medicine meeting, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, on 19 August 2024. Many affiliated government and private medical college principals attended the conference, including Board Convener Professor Al Farid Zafar.
MBBS Examination Schedule 2024-2025
During the meeting, it was agreed that the MBBS yearly examinations will be conducted according to the following schedule:
• First Professional MBBS: End of December of 2024
• Second Professional MBBS: The last week of January in the year 2025
• Third Professional MBBS: December week three, 2024
• Fourth Professional MBBS: Second week of January of the year 2025
• Final Professional MBBS: February 2025, first week
The timing of the examination was prepared based on the information gathered from all the associated medical colleges. This feedback was useful in establishing the timetable of the MBBS classes and ensuring that each academic year takes at least nine months. The practical examinations are organized after the completion of classes, and the students will have one month to prepare for their individual exams.
Essential Decisions on Examination Conduct
Here are some of the decisions taken on the conduct of examinations:
No Carry-On for Failed Students: Following a Supreme Court decision, students who fail the supplementary exams should not be promoted to the next class.
Confidentiality of External Examiners: To prevent the influence of external examiners, their identities in practical examinations will be kept secret and will not be revealed to the college authorities.
Practical/Clinical Examinations: To avoid delay, all these examinations will be administered within three weeks of the last written tests.
According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the university should preserve the quality of its medical education. He also stated his desire to have the degrees of the University of Health Sciences Lahore recognized internationally, including in the United Kingdom and the United States. Such recognition would help eradicate the necessity for the graduates to sit for other licensing exams.
Conclusion
The recently introduced MBBS examination schedule for the academic year 2024-2025 is clear evidence that UHS Lahore does not compromise with the appropriate academic calendar and quality standards of medical faculties. Through such decisions, the university remains on the steady path to becoming one of the best universities in medicine and making its graduates more effective in their future professions.
