The date for the MD CAT retest has been announced for November 24, 2024, in Islamabad. Today’s announcement is accompanied by several changes and a dramatic decrease in the number of candidates on the register.
Date for Re-Testing of MDCAT Announced for Islamabad
The management has also assured the public that the MD CAT re-test will be conducted in Islamabad where over 30 testing centres have been put in place to host the candidates. Its strong structure guarantees trouble-free and well-ordered participation for the thousands of people expected. This registration process is now complete, and all of the candidates needed for the next test are adequately prepared.
Sudden Reduction in Applicant Sign-Up
This year’s re-test has shown a significant reduction in the number of candidates sitting for the test from a previous 53,105 candidates to a current 17,597 for the next test. There are many reasons of this change:
1. Candidates with Lower Scores Opting Out: Most students who performed poorly in previous exams have resolved not to write the test again.
2. High Scorers Above 190 Marks Uninterested: Some other students scored more than 190, but they did not sit for the test – maybe either they are happy with the previous scores that they got or they have other plans for their academics.
3. Students Choosing International Opportunities: Currently, some students, especially those having lower previous marks, are choosing academic streams outside India rather than repeating the same exam of MD CAT.
Such a trend implies that the number of applicants seeking to enhance their MD CAT performance is now more selective.
New Test Format: Fewer Answer Options in MCQs
A good addition has however been made for this re-test exercise that we are working on here. Whereas for the conventional MCQs, there are normally five multiple choices provided, these new MCQs will incorporate only four. Some of the pros that may help the candidates slightly may include an increase in the speed of selection and improved accuracy if answers are easier to obtain.
Submission of Idea of IBA Sukkur for the Test Date December 1
As to other pertinent activities, the IBA Sukkur has proposed to shift the test date of the MD CAT to December 1 while the preparation for this option has begun as well. However, the Health Department has not officially put their stamp of approval on December 1 as the date but preparations are being made in anticipation of it.
Final Thoughts
The MD CAT re-test introduces some improvements for administration while raising new concerns for the candidates. From an overall decline in registration figures to minimization of question difficulty level which is a part of most standard tests the world over, all these changes reflect a shift in the medical and dental college testing pattern. There should be more updates to keep the contestants ahead of the arising changes and expect the new format on November 24 in Islamabad.
