In the latest SSC and HSSC passing criteria released by BISE, Lahore’s standard for students to pass their subjects is much more apparent. Following are some major key points of this announcement: Following are some major key points of this announcement:
Changes in a New Passing Criteria
- 33% Minimum Requirement: Students are required to pass in that particular subject, and to pass, they have to secure 33 % of the total marks.
- Cumulative Theory Marks: Cumulative theory papers I and II should be passed and obtain at least 33% of the total marks.
- Overall Aggregate: It can also result in either a valid pass in the total mark where both the theory and the practical tests are to be at least thirty-three percent of the total visible marks of the test paper.
Detailed Breakdown and Examples
For instance, in the case of a Physics paper that consists of a total of 200 marks. The breakdown is as follows:
- Theory Papers I and II: PCM 170 Marks Math 85 Marks Physics Marks 85 Marks
- Practical Paper: It has been evaluated at 30 marks, and it infracts three of the four tested principles of a ‘good’ law.
For a student to pass:
- They should attain 66 points out of theories worth 200 (33%) so as to pass the course.
- Further, they need to obtain at least 56 out of 170 (33 percent) in the theory papers only.
Reappearance Criteria
If the student needs to meet these criteria, they have to retake the specific paper/s in which they get less than 33%. This could be in either of the theory papers I or II or in the practical paper. Here’s a more detailed look at the reappearance requirements: Here’s a more detailed look at the reappearance requirements:
- Theory Paper I or II: Any student who has got a total of less than 28 marks out of 85 in either of the papers.
- Practical Paper: Sometimes, the student may score below ten out of thirty.
Practical Application
Let’s consider a few scenarios to understand better how this policy works: Let’s consider a few scenarios to understand better how this policy works:
- In Paper I, a student obtains a mark of 28, while in Paper II, a student obtains a mark of 30 in the practical part; the student gets only ten marks. The sum of what they got is 68/200, which is equal to 0. 33%, and that qualifies as 33% in terms of theory and total over summation. This student passes.
- The third one got 20 on paper one, 35 on paper two, and six on the practical. Their total is 61 out of 200, which is below the 33% aggregate they set for themselves. This student has to repeat both the practical and Paper I.
- If a student obtains 26 for Paper I, 27 for Paper II, and 10 in the practical, making it 63 out of 200, the candidate would be required to re-sit both theory papers since they failed to get 33% for theory.
Immediate Implementation
The policy above shall be updated as follows and will be enforced from the current academic year for both SSC and HSSC students. Students and educators should pay attention to this development in order to stay abreast of the changes that they need to adhere to in preparation for the tests that are to come in the future.
For further information and more updates, one needs to follow the official announcements of the BISE.
